About Celeste
A voice that does not hurry.
Celeste grew up singing harmony in a small church choir in Inglewood, the youngest voice in a row of aunties who taught her to hold a note until the room went quiet.
She wrote her first album, Pearl Season, on an upright piano in a rented room and released it on her own label. Word traveled the old way, one friend at a time, until the small rooms were not big enough.
Gold in the Fire took her to theaters, and Midnight Choir, recorded after dark in an empty sanctuary, made her a favorite of late-night radio. Live at the Lyric captured a single night in Harlem with nothing fixed afterward.
Velvet Hours, her fourth studio album, was recorded live to tape in Nashville and Paris with a forty-piece orchestra and a church choir. She lives in Los Angeles and still sings at her home church when she is off the road.
I want every song to feel like the last hour of a long night, when you finally tell the truth.
